Travel | Rome

Monday, 10 March 2014

A couple of weeks ago, my University course and I visited Rome and Florence for a study trip full of wonderful industry insights and experiences that I will never forget.

This was my first ever visit to Rome, despite it being my fourth visit to Italy. I wouldn't let going in February put you off - it was the perfect time in my eyes! I've only ever visited Italy at the peak of summer (July/August) so obviously I associate the country with scorching hot sun and some sort of cool pool/lake to dip into in order to cool down. I never expected the weather we experienced in Rome on the first day - highs of over 22 degrees! This time of year also comes with a much more condensed amount of tourists which makes the streets more spacious and queues less long.

We spent three nights and only two full days in the capital so attempting to see all of the main sights alongside our fashion-visit schedule was a bit of a challenge, but not impossible. I loved visiting the world-renowned Colosseum in the sunshine and admiring the view from Fendi's rooftop terrace at the headquarters was so special. I cannot even begin to describe how incredible the next day was when we were shown around Valentino's Headquarter's, seeing the Haute Couture being made up close and in person (ahhhhhhhhhhhhh was that real?!) and sitting on the same sofa the Queen of Spain had sat on that very morning choosing from the most detailed, beautiful collection of pieces i've ever seen! There were no photos taken of this, of course.

Rome is such a wonderful wonderful city. Next time I visit I will make sure I spend longer relaxing and soaking up the Roman atmosphere than dashing about. Until next time, Roma.
